Rates & Reimbursement

At Holistic Mental Health Counseling, we believe great therapy should be transparent and accessible—here’s a clear breakdown of our session rates, how payment works, and the options we offer to make trauma-informed care fit your life.

How Payment Works

  • Many of our clients use their out-of-network benefits to pay for therapy with us. They have plans through major insurers like Aetna, Cigna, UHC/UMR, and Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Private-pay practice. We don’t bill insurance directly.
  • Payment at each session. Via credit/debit card, HSA, or FSA.
  • Secure processing via Stripe. Integrated directly into your SimplePractice client portal.

✦ OUR RATES

$100 – $250

per session

Rates vary based on practitioner experience and licensure. Our $100 rate — offered by our master’s-level interns — serves as our sliding-scale option for clients seeking more accessible care.

Get Reimbursed for Your Sessions

If you’d like to use your out-of-network benefits, here’s a simple three-step process. Many plans cover 30%–100% of the session cost — and because we offer a discounted rate, your reimbursement may end up covering most or even all of your session.

01

Call Your Insurance

Ask if you have “out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health services” and what percentage they reimburse. Also request the provider’s NPI and their supervisor’s NPI, if applicable. Note: sessions with master’s-level interns are sometimes not reimbursable — which is why we offer a heavily discounted rate for their services.

02

Attend Sessions

As an out-of-network provider, payment is made at the time of service. We offer a discounted rate for clients using out-of-network benefits, and we can also space sessions — for example, every other week — to help you stay within budget.

03

Get Reimbursed

We’ll provide you with a superbill after your sessions. Submit it to your insurance for reimbursement — often via CMS-1500 form or your insurance portal. Your insurance company will let you know the fastest and easiest way to receive your reimbursement.

Your Superbill Includes

Everything your insurance needs to process your reimbursement.

CPT code (most commonly 90834)
Therapist’s NPI number
Dates of service & fees
Diagnosis (required for reimbursement)

✦ HSA / FSA

Pay With Pre-Tax Dollars

We accept HSA and FSA cards to cover session costs — a simple way to stretch your therapy dollars further.

✦ Tax Deduction

Therapy as a Medical Expense

Therapy may be tax-deductible as a medical expense. Consult your tax professional to see how it applies to your situation.
